Don't Tread on Me

Don't fool around when it comes to keeping your pants up. These belts are handmade in Portland, Oregon from recycled bicycle rubber tires, and each one is strong enough to cinch you in for years to come. Each belt is made from a different tire, so each one has a distinct pattern to its tread, even showing different levels of wear. Buckle is nickel-plated steel.

You asked and we listened! The bike tread belts are now available in road or hybrid bicycle treads. The road bike tread belts will have a more subtle tread pattern. The hybrid bike tread belts will have a raised tread with a more textured look.

Julien Jaborska got the idea to transform used bicycle tires into belts after working in bike shops for a few years and witnessing the heaps of trash generated by replacing worn and broken parts.

He decided to take some tires home and experiment, and came up with the first belt, which he kept for himself. After some friendly encouragement, he made a few more.

"I put some up for sale on that wonderful creation we call the internet, and the next thing I knew, orders were rolling in," he says.

Julien moved to Portland, Oregon, a city that he calls "the mecca of biking, recycling, handmade [and] weird," where he launched Rebicyclist as a full-time business.

He says that thanks to the support of those that buy his belts he is "living the dream, making cool things and riding bikes."

Comments about Bike Tread Belt:

I gave this to my brother who is a graphic designer, who is a very casual dresser and always in style, this item fit his style. His 11&13year old kids thought it was too cool. he said it did transfer a little black color to his jeans, but nothing that couldn't come out in the wash. He wouldn't recommend wearing it with tan kaki's just incase. Big conversational piece at work. Would recommend to anyone that likes unique gifts.

      Comments about Bike Tread Belt:

I was excited to receive the "hybrid" version of this belt because it was unique and rugged. Unfortunately, once I put it on I quickly realized that bike tires were not designed to be worn around the human waist. Because the tire retains its "U" shape, it means that instead of having a flat surface around your waist, there are two rather stiff edges pressing into your waist. If you wear a belt loosely or with pants made of a thicker fabric, then it's fine. But if you actually need it to hold up your pants, you may be painfully disappointed.

          Comments about Bike Tread Belt:

The belt looks interesting, but is not comfortable. That's because when you tighten it, the curve of the tire makes an arc from top to bottom. This leads to the belt pinching and moving the pants fabric. Loosening the belt helps, but makes the belt less useful. If you are lucky and get a wide belt, it may be better. I wouldn't buy another, but I am OK keeping this.

Belt did not have tread on it

          Comments about Bike Tread Belt:

The belt did not have tread on it like the one pictured in the catalog. I am returning it for one that does. Since that is what sold it to me in the first place, I think all the belts shipped out should have some tread on them.
