Hops To It
After discovering a vintage fermenter in her father's basement, Erica Shea and Stephen Valand researched the art of home brewing and swiftly became self-taught pros. The pair quit their advertising jobs and left for a seven week beer-tasting tour of Europe to train their palates and test the possibility of a business partnership. They returned inspired and ready to launch this do-it-yourself kit, equipped with everything you need to brew up a mouth-watering storm of pale ales, porters or saisons. Yields the equivalent of 12 beers in four weeks. Made in the USA and Canada.
Sold individually.
Includes:
1 Gallon Glass Fermenter, airlock, tubing, thermometer, tubing clamp, packet of sanitizer, stopper and blowoff attachment.

just not much too this. I've seen this elsewhere with more stuff -books, types, bottles, etc. This just seems incomplete.

Ive seen other kits that looked really intimidating, but this looks simple like maybe I could do this.

a comprehensive kit would be better

Nice to have everything you need (except bottles, caps, and a bottler) in one package. Nice price.

would want to know a bit more re: what this includes, entails, etc. before purchasing but would potentially consider as a gift for several individuals.

Just not my thing. I wouldnt dabble with something like that. Perfer to buy from the store. I do see the novelty of it and could see some people getting really into home brew. Just not for me.
Gayle

Well, if you're going to drink it, why not make it.
vanessa
Does this come with instructions?
Elizabeth
Vote: Thumbs up!
great price. especially for a begginer.
krystal
Vote: Thumbs up!
Will it come with instructions and recipe book? If not, then I'll pass.

People are too lazy to return movies to a video store these days, let alone brew their own beer.
Mitzi
Vote: Thumbs up!
Great...would buy one for hubby who loves to make home brew.
Tina Marie

clever idea, have seen it in many other stores. seems as if it's missing something though.

Another "not my style" but could be a cute gift for the right price for the right person.

We've been growing our own hops and thinking of trying this ourselves. What a fun way to try it out! Plus, this would be a great gift.
Stan
Vote: Thumbs up!
I like that this is a small batch brewer instead of the typical 5 gallon type.
Kathleen

You can buy kits anywhere, and they come with more stuff. How much will shipping be for the glass jug? I have a similar jug here at home that was $2.

good guy gift :)

Many have tried....all have failed. Nothing good ever comes from trying to brew your own. Leave it to the professionals.
Michael
Forty bucks for a glass jar, hops and a thermometer? That's expensive for only 12 beers.

You can get this kind of thing all over.
Janet
Vote: Thumbs down!
I hate these kinds of things. They rarely get used, don't make a wonderful final product, and I sure wouldn't want to receive one as a gift. (Been there, and didn't do that!)
Kathy
Vote: Thumbs up!
I like this better than the "brew in a bag in your closet" style. I'd try it!
Barbara
Vote: Thumbs up!
Might be fun, but hope that it has really good instructions!
Jon

*in my best Homer voice* Mmmmmm... beer!
Elizabeth
Vote: Thumbs down!
Eh, I'm not into drinking/sharing cutesy weird homemade brews. Chocolate? Also don't have the counter space for this setup, even at "compact".

I'm not patient enough - I'll just go to the beer store...
Kath

A little too expensive, but my husband would get into the simplicity of this kit.
Fran
Vote: Thumbs down!
Too much work for the money. Just go to the store and buy a case for a lot less.
John
Vote: Thumbs up!
Looks like they've simplified the method compared to other kits I've seen, but the price seems a little high.
Janet
Vote: Thumbs up!
Could be a good gift for a beer enthusiast but seems small and you would need other supplies - like bottles.
amy

this is very popular now and the growler looks a lot better than the typical bucket

Way cool! With all the at home and microbrewing that's been happening, this is right on point. I definitely will get this.

Could it be any good? You can buy thousands of flavors/brands so easily.

I suppose it's fine for inexperienced brewers.

much incomplete kit

I think this is great option for a gift for a guy (and a girl, but especially guys) as they are often hard to buy for. It certainly would add to the "for him" section.
Melanie

Love this idea, while I'm not a beer drinker myself, I think a lot of people would like this! How about a wine making kit, that's more my style!

YUK, not for me. Many have tried it but don't stick with it very long.

I bought directly from their Brooklyn store before. This is amazing stuff and it's a great price.

I suppose this is good for the more adventurous home cook, but I prefer to leave the brewing to the pros.

Kit doesn't look complete. And a glass mecury thermometer? Really? Is this 1910? You can get much better kits online.

Leave this to the companies that specialize in beer making supplies.

I can see it now: Every college fraternity and dorm will have their own brew kits ready and loaded before check-in even begins, and Animal House lives again!! Guys, our national science deficit needs something a good deal better than this!!!
Kayla

I've seen these types of kits. I'm not interested.

I've seen this type of item offered before. It looks easy to use and the price appears to be in a good area.

Is it just me or does the sample beer in the gallon jug look more like Hawaiian Punch than beer? I don't think my guy would want to drink red beer.
Johanna
Vote: Thumbs down!
Why would you want to make it when its just around the corner ready to go.
sarah

Seen this before, but you can never go wrong with beer!

I LOVE microbrews especially from Michigan! However, I'm not a fan of IPAs. Might be a good gift for someone who wants to experiment with brewing their own beer...like a starter kit. In any case, I've gotta think that once you brew your first batch of beer you would never want to stop!
Joana
Vote: Thumbs up!
seems interesting, but the price... eck. i could go out and buy beer cheaper
Annamarie

Great idea, especially if it'd come as a complete kit.Maybe even some DIY bottle labels as a coordinating product..?! Now I think that would make this WAY fun!
