Raised by two scientists, Daina Platais broke the mold, in more ways than one, and headed in the opposite direction professionally. Platais always gravitated towards the spontaneous and exciting and that love of discovery informs her curious ceramic creations, which are aesthetically simple yet functionally complex.

My only suggestion is that it should have had a small flat area at the bottom for stability. Otherwise , very creative idea.

I actually haven't gotten a chance to use the shaker yet as I am waiting to move into the house my husband and I are saving up for first. Right now, it's being used as decoration because it's so darn adorable that it can stand alone like that. However, I have inspected the plugs and they seem secure. I am confident that when the time comes to use it, it will work as beautifully as it looks. Superb craftsmanship, glossy, lovely, and lifelike.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Yes, it's pricey but it's gorgeous and handmade so that can be overlooked. I never knew I could be as proud of a salt and pepper shaker as I am of this one. It is adorable, vibrant perfection.

I am an avid collector of quirky, cute, unique and special salt and pepper shakers. As soon as I saw this, I knew I had to have it. It made me smile. I was so excited when I finally got it. It was everything I expected and more. It is beautifully handcrafted and the attention to detail is amazing. Very realistic - the artisan is very creative. This unique piece is a little work of beautiful art for your table. The only thing that I suggest is that you invest in some museum putty. I used some to stabilize the set because I felt that it did not sit securely on the table - I shuddered at the thought of it slipping and falling of the table! That's why I affixed it to the table with the putty (which is easily removable and doesn't mark or stain) and the pit inside the cavity of the avocado half.

I had wanted this product for who knows how long and could never bring myself to purchase it for myself. It was just the perfect item for me. Funky and functional. My boyfriend surprised me this Christmas with a set of my own and I couldn't be more pleased. I was instantly in love with it. I can't wait to throw dinner parties so I can pass the avocado around the table.
