The clay's rich, dark umber tone and malleability allows Bruce to create bold, anthropomorphic sculptures with added functionality. Bruce Fontaine
Oregon potter Bruce Fontaine strives to emulate the feeling of clay works by ancient and indigenous people in the world. Always charming, he often gives his works anthropomorphic qualities, that are often influenced by the colorful people around him.
"I begin each piece by drawing or envisioning the design. Next, I throw the necessary pottery shapes on the wheel and allow the form form to harden. When the clay has approached the desired consistency, I sculpt and add pieces, join forms together, and dry to prepare for the two or more firings that follow."
