Seelbach Cocktail

Kentucky is home to the world's finest bourbons, and, as such, is naturally the source of inspiration for many of the most beloved whiskey-based cocktails. Named after the famous hotel in Louisville, this classic cocktail remains as popular today as it was back in the early twentieth century. The Seelbach fortifies a backbone of bourbon with a touch of Cointreau, two types of bitters, and a splash of sparkling wine for a sophisticated sipper that will transport you to a more genteel time and place.

Serves 1:

- 2 ounces bourbon
- 1/2 ounce Cointreau
- 7 dashes of Angostura bitters
- 7 dashes of Peychaud's bitters
- Ice cubes
- 4 to 5 ounces Champagne or other sparkling wine

Tools: mixing glass, barspoon, strainer
Glass: flute
Garnish: lemon twist

Combine the bourbon, Cointreau, and Angostura and Peychaud's bitters in an ice-filled mixing glass and stir until chilled. Strain into a flute. Top with the Champagne and garnish with the lemon twist.

      Comments about American Cocktail:

I was very impressed with this cocktail recipe book. "The American Cocktail" is split up into five different regions of the United States: the South, the Northeast, the Midwest, the West, and the West Coast. In addition to these regions, they also have a "Cocktail Basics" section in the very beginning. At the beginning of each "region section", you get a brief description of the flavors and drinks that are common to that region.
Just to give you a better idea, here are some of the unique regional drinks:
South- "Pig on the Porch" (bacon bourbon and ginger ale, garnished with candied bacon)
Northeast- "Boston Bog" (cranberries, Jamaica rum, apricot liqueur, ginger syrup, lemon juice)
Midwest- "Rittenhouse Inn Wassail Punch" (cloves, allspice berries, ginger root, cinnamon sticks, peppercorns, apple cider, cranberry juice, brown sugar, bourbon)
West- "Agave Way" (fresh green chile, black grapes, lime juice, agave syrup, tequila)
West Coast- "Stumptown Vanilla Flip" (vanilla liqueur, espresso, orange liqueur)

There are also more "standard" drink recipes, such as Old Fashioned, Martini, and Margarita, though all offer their own unique "twist."

This is a wonderful gift to anyone who likes to experiment with new flavors, and appreciates a well-made drink!

        Comments about American Cocktail:

I was really pleased when this item arrived because I got it as a gift for my boyfriends parents, who enjoy mixing specialty drinks and entertaining. It's a great size (not too large), has really nice looking photos and the recipes are easy to read. It's a hard cover book and has great presentation as a gift.
