Water Color

This colorful shower curtain will have you looking at water in a new light. The outer side is a vibrant patchwork of African, wax print cottons with floral bursts and intricate patterns. The waterproof lining on the back is made from reclaimed water sachets--clear plastic pouches that are the only reliable source of clean water for many people in Ghana and other impoverished nations. The pouches' labels are left in place, giving a splash of visual interest to the reverse of the curtain. Handmade in Ghana.

Due to the recycled and handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.

Made in Ghana

Ronnie Shaw received his Bachelor’s degree in American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in the fall of 2003. In conjunction with research on West African dance, his passion as an avid dancer and academic, he was compelled to study abroad at the University of Ghana in West Africa, which changed his life. After living in Ghana, his commitment to creating progress in Africa was solidified: "People often refer to Africa as a place of absolute hopelessness but there is a spirit of kindness, love, and humanity that I’d never experienced in my life prior to going to Ghana. It is my goal to utilize the vibrant beauty of African culture, dance and music, and weave it into a tapestry of change for the well-being of the people."

Give Me The One Shown

By

Comments about UncommonGoods African Patch Shower Curtain:

The shower curtain you see in the listing photo is comprised of 12 different African prints. The patchwork shower curtain I received is comprised of only four prints--two of which are super similar to each other. You've been warned--don't expect anything as vibrant and varied in prints as the shower curtain in the listing photo. I'm super disappointed and will be returning this item.

Comments about UncommonGoods African Patch Shower Curtain:

Bought it for the colorful designs. The material is a little rigid, stiff and make some noise when moving the curtain. Might be because it's new. Still love it though! Make my bathroom alive.

Comments about UncommonGoods African Patch Shower Curtain:

The disclaimer does say that since it is a handmade product, there will be variations, but they were more substantial than I expected. I anticipated that it would be the same fabric snippets but just in different shapes and arrangements, whereas most of the snippets in the curtain I received were different patterns altogether, creating a more different color scheme than I expected. I still LIKE it, but I don't love the one I received as much as the one pictured.
I think the little plastic bags on the back are "cool," but they are very noisy and make the shower curtain quite heavy. I'm using the shower curtain as a regular curtain, because it doesn't match my bathroom that well, so I will probably take the back off and be much happier with it.
Sounds like I'm complaining a lot, but the fact remains that it's a totally beautiful and unique handmade product—from Africa, which is what I wanted— that I couldn't find anywhere else, so I'm still so happy to have it.
