This patent-pending product goes beyond the giftbox: It's a thoughtful way of introducing gardening greenhorns to the joy of a green thumb. Handmade in Seattle.

Boxes of eight "truffles" mix four different herbs in two distinct varieties:

Herbal Teas (top):
Grow greens suited for teas and salads: Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Borage Blossom and Anise.

Italian Herbs (bottom):
Sprout kitchen staples for rounding out entrees, pesto and garnishes: Basil, Parsley, Chive and Winter Thyme.

• Store in a cool dry place until ready to grow. Then, place bon bons on top of soil in sunny spot (indoors or outdoors), water generously until germination.

"Several years ago I heard of guerrilla gardeners using seed balls. I thought the lean design concept was cool, as is the historic agricultural use," says Anne Dowell, creator of Garden Bon Bons.

"Then when I had a child," she continues, "I thought it might be an enjoyable way to engage my toddler in gardening, so I looked up the technique and realized that although seed balls are too small for a very small child, they look uncannily like truffles."
