Comments aboutWINERD - THE WINE TASTING GAME:
The great part about this game is that you can play it over and over again with different wines and have a completely different game each time. I bought it for a friend for Christmas, but didn't give it to her. I gave it to my boyfriend instead. The two of us played it and had a blast. I ended up buying a second one to give the friend as a belated gift. I did find the majority of the questions a little easy, but still learned a few things! If you are an expert wine drinker, you might find this too simple.

Comments aboutWINERD - THE WINE TASTING GAME:
I purchased this game for husband as a Christmas present because he really enjoys wine. We took this to a family gathering to play. Five people played and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It does help to know a little about wine when you play, but if you don't, you learn from the questions.

Comments aboutWINERD - THE WINE TASTING GAME:
This was a unique and fun game; however, you don't discover, until after you buy the game, that to truly be played correctly, there needs to be one person designated as the "Moderator." That person decants the wine into three identical decantors, and secretly labels each one (i.e., "a", "b", "c"), so only he/she knows which wine is in which container. The Moderator then pours the wine to the players at the appropriate time (who then have to guess what varietal, year, etc), throughout the entire game. I got stuck with that unenviable duty the first time we played, and it rather took the fun out of it for me (and I bought the game and the wine!). The trivia-type questions, however, were great fun...we all agreed on that. If the developers of the game could have just come up with a better way than to have to leave one person out of the fun of the guessing, during the wine-tasting part of the game, each time it is played, that would have been the best of both worlds. This might not even seem like an issue to people new to drinking wine, but in our family, we all aspire to become true wine connoisseurs, and have had our own blind wine tastings for years. ~MR......ps: the Moderator can, of course, pour a bit in her/his own glass, while performing facilitator duties :)

Comments aboutWINERD - THE WINE TASTING GAME:
We played this game for the first time and really enjoyed ourselves. There are lots of variations possible, and we did adapt the rules to make it more interesting. For example, we had someone outside the game serve the players and we ALL did the blind taste tests each time a player landed on that square. While the tasting is fun, and in my case, challenging, the majority of learning about wines really comes from answering the questions as you progress around the board (although if you know latin or French you will have a big advantage in answering). I suggest having something to cleanse the palate available between taste tests. The taste test was challenging because we used 3 red zins from California, in a higher, medium, and lower price range. By the end of the game, my sense of taste and smell were worn out, but by that point, you don't really care! Lots of fun! We got the game as a gift and would recommend it to someone who likes party games. Wine snobs would probably shun the game, but for those who just want a good excuse to get together with friends and try new wines, I would recommend it for yourself or as a gift.
