After living in China for several years and witnessing, on a large scale, the wasteful habit of disposable chopsticks, artist Bryan Parks decided he had to do something about it. So, he set to work designing functional, sculptural folding pieces handmade from recycled, sanitized bamboo chopsticks.
Symmetrical and simple, this folding soap dish will keep soap dry and off the counter.
Before becoming soap dishes, the chopsticks are boiled in black tea to give them a medium brown color.
Handmade in the Yunnan Province of southwest China.

I had already been using a similar soap dish but mine was becoming water stained and turning gray from daily use in the shower. I decided to buy back-up versions because I love the simple design and the way it fits onto the soap shelf in my shower stall. I purchased two units and I'm planning to switch off between them to keep them in "like new" condition. This soap dish is not difficult to clean but vigilance is key. I try to rinse it directly under the shower head after each use to get any soap residue that may be lingering after my shower. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't do likewise, so I sometimes have to use an old toothbrush to dislodge dried residue after he's used the shower. A small price to pay for such an attractive, innovative design of a natural, recycled product. Love this soap dish!

It's nice that it is a product that was reclaimed. Due to the design I do knock it around a bit and the wet wood does drip and leaves stains on the counter

Comments aboutRECYCLED CHOPSTICKS SOAP DISH:
When the package arrives, it's a deceivingly simple product. But when it's open & in use it's very attractive: I wish I bought more than one. It's the best soap dish I've found because it allows the wet soap to drain & dry off so your bar lasts longer (wonderful for the pricey handmade soaps; I always hated watching them dissolve in puddles in a normal soapdish). It's beautiful next to the sink. Would also be excellent as a holder for small desk items, nuts, stones, shells, whatever. The only downside is that when open, the base is rounded so it sort of "rocks" a little bit but not enough to fall over. And it's recycled, so yay.

I bought this for a friend of mine who has an Asian background, and detests liquid soaps and shower gels. I paired it with some quality bar soaps, and it made an excellent Christmas gift. I love that it is made from recycled materials!

Originally bought this for a Secret Santa gift but decided I liked it too much to part with it. Was going to use it in the bathroom or kitchen as a soap dish but cannot stand the thought of 'dirtying' it with soap! Now am using it in my office to hold my business cards. Such an original design and great recycling/repurposing! Going to get the larger one next.
