Picture Imperfect

DIANA CAMERA

A cult classic in the art world, the Diana camera produces images that are soft and dreamy with super-saturated colors, unpredictable blurring and random contrast. A grittier alternative to the digital camera, the Diana infuses unexpected meaning, wonderful imperfections and an artistic edge into what might just be an ordinary shot.

You'll be able to shoot incredible images with multiple exposures, overlapping frames, nighttime exposures and light leaks. It even has a panoramic and pinhole feature. Each camera is accompanied by an instructional booklet and hardcover book, Diana: True Tales and Short Stories, which explores the history and uses of the camera and includes interviews and photos. Uses 120 film.

Comments about DIANA CAMERA:

I purchased one camera for my brother for a combined Christmas/groomsman's gift, and one for myself. I used mine and also lent it to our wedding photographers when I recently got married. It's a lot of fun to use and really takes you back to the 60s and 70s. The fun retro appeal is a great conversation starter. The included book provides lots of cool stories and sample photos. You could get the same effects with Photoshop and other photo editing software, but what a great conversation to say "No, I didn't edit this photo at all!". It's a great gift, and a perfect second camera for anyone with a joy for photography.

Fun!
By Fun Fiance!Verified Buyer from Old Greenwich, CT on 8/2/2009

Comments about DIANA CAMERA:

My fiance was super stoked when he opened this for his birthday! He was just admiring a book where the photography was from this camera, so he was really happy to have one of his own, but commented that he was afraid it was difficult to use for an ameture photographer. Another issue is it is difficult to find processing for the film.

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about DIANA CAMERA:

It is very difficult to physically turn the knob that brings the film to the lens, everything else is great about the camera. I had to on multiple times open the camera and manually reset the film in order to get to the next negative.

Decided to return it ?(
By GenVerified Buyer from New Orleans, LA on 4/13/2009
Gift:
No
Cons:
Time-commitment
Describe Yourself:
Casual Photographer

Comments about DIANA CAMERA:

Honestly, I'm EXTREMELY busy with my job (medicine resident) and when I looked at the length of the directions and the time it would've taken to use, and the sort of flimsiness of the camera, I decided to return it. I really wanted to take pictures like those on the site, I'm just not enough of a "camera enthusiast" for this one, probably good for others.

Poor construction
Best Uses:

Comments about DIANA CAMERA:

I use this camera to take pictures of my daughter, self, and husband. While I knew the film would be hard to find and processing labs few and far between, I still purchased the camera because I love the type of photos produced. I bought the additional pack of lens, but coudn't remove the original lens that came on it. My husband also tried with no luck. SO I guess, there are some defects...either the lens is not attached or too attached.
