My 4 yo son loves these gears. He is bright and inquisitive and also has some sensory integration issues, which I think are "fed" by the spinning feature of these gears. This latter piece is fine with me. He enjoys making and watching them spin and is also fitting them together in interesting patterns.

I gave this to my daughter for her 4th birthday. She loves to put the wheels on the refrigerator and the stainless steel trash can and spin them. She loves it!

these are really neat and both my husband and son enjoy playing with them. i would say they should be for an older child than our son, who was 2 1/2 when we gave them to him for christmas and wasn't very interested in using them properly at the time but that was an issue with our timing in giving the gift, not an issue with the product itself.
