Hand built slice by slice by artisan Margaret Dorfman from fresh purple potatoes cured, pressed and aged for several days, these incredible accent bowls are a tasty addition to your home. Named after the translucent surfaces used for writing in medieval Europe, the parchment bowl can hold potpourri or a votive candle, but with its enchanting design and jewel-like colors in teal, turquoise, purple and indigo, it's also vibrantly attractive on its own. Unlike real potatoes, which are quite hardy, these bowls are extremely delicate and must be handled gently. Handmade in California, each is one of a kind, and irregular edges can be trimmed to a desired length. Colors may vary slightly, as seen above. Protect from sunlight and humidity.

I had bought a vegetable parchment bowl previously, and loved it. When I saw this variety, I loved the variations in color, and decided to buy it for a good friend. I knew it would be delicate, but it did have a small tear on the side, and most disappointing, had absolutely no teal in it. I expected purple, but each pictured piece also had teal and the contrast in the colors is what made them so interesting. I love the concept, but don't feel this one was as well executed.

the product looks like the picture if you have it in direct sun light, but the description says to keep it out of sun light. if its not in the sun light then it just looks like a funny looking black bowl.

my bowl came within a week and it was smashed to pieces. i emailed customer service and they were very helpful in every way to get me a new bowl ASAP. they asked me a few questions about how it was packaged and how the box looked and after answering these questions they were going to send me another bowl just like that. i would definitely recommend this site to another friend, but not the product.

I had purchased a vegetable bowl before, so I knew what to expect as far as delicacy. The picture is a little misleading, however, as it looks like the bowl has both purple and teal, and there was not one bit of teal in my bowl. It is a gift for a friend, and I loved the teal/purple color combination, so I am a little disappointed. There is a also a very small hole, but I understand how this can happen, and it is very inconspicuous.

We put this under a display light to illuminate the great translucent purple potatoes. It looks great! Unfortunately when we got it the bottom was completely broken apart. It didn't matter for the place we put it, and wasn't worth exchanging. I think it's beautiful, but I wouldn't buy it again because this item is just far too fragile!
