Amy Abrams and Ronen Glimer first opened Artists & Fleas in 2003 on North 6th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in a warehouse that sat on what was a then barren stretch of street. Conceived of as a place where aspiring and emerging local artists, designers and the vintage obsessed could come together and play show and sell, the market quickly became a hub for the community of cool-hunters and market fans in a rapidly changing neighborhood. Since first opening its doors, Artists & Fleas has incubated and hosted hundreds of small, independent businesses many of whom have gone on to open up shops in Brooklyn and beyond, including Mast Brothers Chocolate, Erica Weiner Jewelry, Brooklyn Charm, Malin Landaeus, Any Old Iron and numerous independent designers who call A&F home and who have been able to pursue their work full-time through the market. Beginning this Spring, Artists & Fleas will open a new, permanent home located inside Chelsea Market on the corner of 10th Avenue and West 15th Street open daily. @artistsandfleas
Gaby Dolceamore is the Community Outreach Coordinator at UncommonGoods growing their design community through events, design challenges and social media. In 2011, she tapped into her online network to win a gig as the Levi's Girl, a social media spokesperson position. She struggles with updates that exceed 140 characters, but will finish this bio regardless. Her passions include social media, the Muppets, covering pop songs on her ukulele, and knitting.
