Walter Jacobus and Barbara Greenburg

Artist Bio

Barbara Greenberg and Walter Jacobus founded their carving business in 1976. For more than 30 years, they've been crafting wooden fine art in the northwestern mountains of North Carolina.

American Chestnut wood, recycled from old split rail fences, has been a major influence in the products created by Barbara and Walter since 1978.

The majestic, giant American Chestnut trees once covered a quarter of the eastern woodlands, before Chestnut blight killed all but a few mature trees. The blight, first discovered in New York City in 1904, imported from Asia, wiped out nearly all of these giant trees by 1950.
