Artist Melissa Borrell has been designing and making jewelry since 1996. She studied art and French at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University in Boston and Paris.
Melissa moved to San Francisco in 1997 and set up her studio in the Mission district. Working as a studio artist she participated in open studios and fairs and sold her work to galleries and design shops across the country. She graduated in 2005 from the MFA program in Jewelry and Metals at Rhode Island School of Design.
Her work is meant to question the boundaries of what jewelry can be and spark curiosity in the viewer or wearer. She strives to create a work that functions as an image or object in addition to being an adornment.
